Common Questions

Frequently asked questions.

A few things worth knowing before you start, and a few more that tend to come up afterward.

Is this a diagnosis?+
Before You Start
No. Pain Languages is a self-development tool, not a clinical instrument. It's designed to help you reflect on patterns of pain, not to diagnose a mental health condition. If anything in your results resonates strongly or raises concern, we encourage you to talk with a licensed mental health professional.
How is this different from therapy?+
Before You Start
Therapy is an ongoing, personalized relationship with a trained clinician. Pain Languages is a one time snapshot, a structured way to name and understand patterns you might already sense in yourself. Many people use their results as a starting point for a conversation with a therapist, not a replacement for one.
Is this assessment validated?+
Before You Start
Not yet, and we want to be upfront about that. The Pain Languages Inventory was built using established scale development principles and reviewed by psychologists and mental health professionals before launch, but it hasn't gone through formal psychometric validation such as large sample testing and reliability studies. That work is planned as the platform grows. Until then, treat your results as a thoughtful starting point rather than a scientifically validated measure.
What happens to my data?+
Trust & Privacy
Your responses are anonymous. We don't collect your name, email, or other identifying information as part of the assessment itself. Your scores are stored to generate your results and, in aggregate, to help us improve the assessment over time. They're never sold or shared with advertisers.
Can my results change?+
Your Results
Yes, and that's expected. Your septime scores reflect your current experience, which shifts with circumstances, seasons of life, and the work you put into growth. Many people find it useful to retake the assessment periodically to see how their patterns have shifted.
What if none of the eight chords match me?+
Your Results
That's a valid result, not a failure of the assessment. You'll see a Unique Pattern result showing which septimes are active for you, even if they don't combine into one of the eight named profiles yet. As we learn more from real results, new chords may be added over time.
Do I need any background in psychology to take it?+
Before You Start
No. Every question is written in plain, everyday language, with no clinical vocabulary or prior knowledge required.
How long does it take, and is it free?+
Before You Start
About 8 to 12 minutes for all 50 questions, and yes, it's completely free.
